The ultimate creamy and decadent sweet potato pie

As the holiday season rolls around or even any time of year, my kitchen comes alive with the warm, inviting aroma of sweet potato pie baking in the oven. This isn’t just any sweet potato pie; it’s a special twist on my classic family recipe that has been passed down through generations. My friends and family absolutely adore this pie! It's become a staple at our gatherings, and I often find loved ones vying for seconds—and sometimes even thirds! The creamy filling combined with the flaky crust creates an experience that is truly unforgettable, making it my all-time favorite dessert.

Ingredients

  • 4 ½ cups baked and mashed sweet potatoes

  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter

  • 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste

  • 2 deep dish pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)

Directions

  1. Prepare Sweet Potatoes: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the sweet potatoes for 1 hour until tender. Allow them to cool, then peel and mash them. For an extra smooth texture, you can puree the mashed sweet potatoes in a food processor or blender.

  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the baked and mashed sweet potatoes. Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and brown sugar. Mix until fully combined.

  3. Add Flavorings: Add the eggs, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla bean paste, and melted unsalted butter to the mixture. Mix thoroughly until the filling is smooth and well combined.

  4. Prepare Pie Crusts: If using store-bought deep dish pie crusts, place them on baking sheets. If making homemade crusts, prepare them according to your recipe.

  5. Fill the Pie Crusts: Pour the sweet potato filling evenly into both prepared deep dish pie crusts.

  6. Bake the Pies: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the pies for approximately 40 minutes, or until the centers are set and do not jiggle when gently shaken.

  7. Cool and Serve: Once the pies are done baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor.

Whether you're celebrating a holiday or just indulging in a sweet treat, these sweet potato pies are sure to bring joy and comfort to your table. Enjoy!
